And of course, our Real Weddings will always feature the bride’s “Something Blue”! Brittany’s something blue was her grandmother’s sapphire ring that she carried in her bouquet. Lovely!

Q: Where was your ceremony and reception held?

A: Clark Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. Our ceremony was at the Channel Garden at the front of the estate, and the reception was held in a huge white tent on site that was next to the garden- with chandeliers in the top of the tent!

Q: What was your inspiration for the big day?

A: From the very beginning I wanted our wedding to reflect my vision for that day: romantic & classy. Every decision I made about food, linens, chairs, decorations, whatever was brought back to that vision and decided on from there.

Q: How did you decide on a dress or a dress design? What parts of the dress design made you fall in love with it?

A: I went through wedding magazines and circled elements of different designer dresses that I liked- maybe the top from this one, the skirt from another, and a neckline from yet another. I was living in Miami at the time but everyone, including the wedding, was in Texas so I decided to get all my shopping done in one weekend.I set up appointments with about 5-6 different stores and gave myself plenty of time at each. I didn’t limit myself at all and tried everything from a high end boutique to the mainstream widely-known bridal stores to even resale shops!

In my dress I wanted something beautiful and flowing and easy to wear since our wedding was outdoors in the Texas summer, and yet elegant and romantic. I found “THE” dress at a boutique in Southlake called Bridal Design. It was on the mannequin and I just knew that was it. We had them custom make my dress to include some more bead work and make it the very white, not beige, color that I wanted.

Q: How did you and Brian meet?

A: We were both Biomedical Science majors at Texas A&M. It was my second to last semester, and Brian’s very last semester. We ended up having two classes together, but the one we met in was “Medical Communication in International Communities.” He says he noticed my hair and smile :) and I noticed his deep voice and great laugh.

Q: Who made the cake?

A: Texas Star Bakery in Hurst, Texas. We wanted something in a shade of champagne that was elegant and beautiful yet could feed 300+ guests! 1 Corinthians 13 was the running theme throughout the day, so we had her attach a small fondant banner with that verse on the bottom of the cake. The cake itself was very traditional, almond cake and a buttercream icing. For our cake topper we wanted something special and unique. My mom found these really neat wire and pearl ornaments at a small boutique in Bryan, Texas. We loved them and so we had the K for Kendall, and two B’s for Brian & Brittany. I wrapped the wire in a 1/8″ black satin ribbon to make the pearls stand out even more. What’s really special now is we can hang these on our Christmas tree or in our home!

Q: Who was the florist?

A: Bice’s Florist in Hurst, Texas. I brought them the same champagne and scarlet ribbon that I had been using throughout the decor to use on the bouquets and corsages. I LOVED all the flowers. My bouquet was a wonderful assortment of all types of dark red flowers, including tulips, black magic roses, hypericum berries and more for the red, and the champagne was represented with calla lilies that were spray-painted to match our champagne color! The girls’ bouquets were smaller versions of mine (and were doubled as decorations for the head table at the reception).

Q: Why did you choose the colors you chose?

A: We knew we wanted “classy & romantic” and romantic screamed scarlet red to me. I kept it “classy” by using champagne and black accents. Floor length black tablecloths really brought in a symbol of elegance in a garden setting.

Q: What was your favorite moment from the day?

A: Our vows were so special. We are very strong in our Christian faith and chose to derive our vows from some verses in the Bible, mostly 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. We recited to each other “I will be patient, I will be kind….” and so on. It was so special to us.

Q: What were your favors?

A: About 4 months before the wedding I made a playlist of easy-listening music that either had special symbolism in our relationship or or faith. I ordered red CD covers and burned a CD for each family and then tied a black satin ribbon around the red cover and wrote the date of our wedding on the CD itself. It’s something special that we continue to be able to use, as do some of our guests!

Q: Which aspect of the wedding was the most difficult to plan?

A: For us, it was knowing the number of people to plan for. We had actually invited about 600 guests total, knowing that our wedding was being held in a busy month, and neither of our

families were from Weatherford- so it was a drive for anyone who would want to attend. It was hard to give our venues a guesstimate so far ahead of time without having the RSVP’s and not wanting to undershoot or overshoot by the 100’s! We went with 300 from the get go, and I’m almost positive we had just over 300 there that night. It turned out well but was very scary to deal with at the time!
